Ablative of Separation

You will come across the suffix -to in your Pāli study. This is a generic suffix which can be added to any noun or adjective or substantive to create the ablative sense “from”.

rukkhato (from the tree/s)

In the Tipiṭaka it often conveys the meaning of “as” ...

te dhamme dukkhato samanupassati.

He regards those things as suffering.
