Possibility \#9

Possibility #9

When a word ends in a long vowel and the next word begins with e,

e may be changed to ri and the long vowel shortened.

yathāeva > yathariva

āe > ari

This means:

when a word ends in ā,

and the next word starts with e,

ā is shortened

and e becomes ri

In Kaccāyana this is called (22) ev’ādissa ri pubbo ca rasso.
