Vowel Sandhi (sara-sandhi)¶
Vowel Sandhi occurs when the vowel at the end of one part of speech meets the vowel at the beginning of another part of speech.
na + atthi > ?
paññā + indriya > ?
cakkhu + indriya > ?
The basic possibilities of Vowel Sandhi are :
- Elision, lopa, a vowel gets dropped or elided.
- Lengthening, dīghaṃ, a short vowel becomes long.
- Change, ādesa, a new vowel gets formed.
- Insertion, āgama, a consonant is inserted between two vowels.
