All the previous possibilities involved elision of some sort.
All the following examples involve changes of the vowels.
Possibility #5¶
a or ā followed by i or ī can become e
a followed by u or ū can become o
i followed by u can become o

ikkhati > upekkhati

This means:
when a word ends in a,
and the next word starts with i,
together they become e
In Kaccāyana this is called (14) kvac’āsavaṇṇaṃ lutte.
