Possibility \#6

Possibility #6

When is followed by a vowel, it can become m or d

e.g. ya + āhu > yamāhu

eta + avoca > etadavoca

In Kaccāyana this is called (34) madā sare.

ṃ + vowel > m

ta ahaṃ tamahaṃ that I
eta ahaṃ etamahaṃ this I
ta atthaṃ tamatthaṃ that purpose
ya āhu yamāhu whatever they say
ki assa kimassa what is his?

ṃ + vowel > d

eta avoca etadavoca said this
ya idaṃ yadidaṃ whichever this
eta eva etadeva just this
yaṃ ya eva yaññadeva whatever at all

this is influenced by the Sanskrit yad tad etad and tam etam etc

Counter-examples:

maṃ avadhi

maṃ ahāsi
