Possibility \#7
Possibility #7¶
When ṃ is followed by a vowel,
ṃ may be elided.
In this case, the vowel may be lengthened.
e.g. imaṃ + ahaṃ > imāhaṃ
In Kaccāyana this is called (38) kvaci lopaṃ
and (15) dīghaṃ.
ṃ elided before a vowel + vowel lengthened
| imaṃ | ahaṃ | imāhaṃ | this I |
| ekaṃ idaṃ | ahaṃ | ekamidāhaṃ | this one I |
| evaṃ | ahaṃ | evāhaṃ | like this I |
Counter-examples:
ahaṃ eva > ahaṃ eva
etaṃ atthaṃ > etaṃ atthaṃ
