When ṃ is followed by a consonant,
ṃ may be elided.
in verses
e.g. buddhānaṃ + sāsanaṃ > buddhānasāsanaṃ
In Kaccāyana this is called (39) byañjane ca
ṃ elided before a consonant

| ariya- saccānaṃ |
dassanaṃ | ariyasaccāna dassanaṃ | seeing the noble truths |
| paresaṃ | pāva | paresa pāva | tells to others |
| vanasmiṃ | vānaro | vanasmi vānaro | monkey in the forest |
| pajaheyyuṃ | dukkhaṃ | pajaheyyu dukkhaṃ | they could abandon suffering |
