Consonant Sandhi (vyañjana-sandhi)¶
Consonant Sandhi occurs when a word ending in a vowel is followed by a word beginning with a consonant. (or parts of a word)
There are three basic types of Consonant Sandhi
- Re-duplication
- Shortening
- Lengthening
Re-duplication and shortening occur commonly in prose, while shortening and lengthening often occur for the sake of meter in verse.
