Niggahīta Sandhi

Niggahīta sandhi takes place when a word ending in ṃ is followed by a word beginning with a vowel or a consonant.

Possibility #1

When is followed by a consonant, it may remain unchanged.

e.g. evaṃ vutte > evaṃ vutte

In Kaccāyana this is called (30) aṃ byañjane niggahitaṃ.

eva   bahulīkatā often practiced in this way
citta   bhāveti develops the mind
ala   me it is suitable for
yathābāla   yathāmūḷhaṃ so stupidly, so foolishly!
sabba   rūpaṃ all form
aya   loko this world
aya   vuccati this is called
eka   samayaṃ one time
pahāna   hoti is abandoned
sa   khitta saṃkhitta
sa   sandati saṃsandati
eva   diṭṭhī evaṃdiṭṭhī
